In this lesson we will learn about photography composition rules. If you follow these rules, your photos will be much more interesting. We will relate these techniques to video composition so that we can create some pretty impressive print ads, videos, and online television commercials.
After a brief introduction regarding the rule of thirds, formal v.s. informal balance, and leading lines, etc. ,students will partner together and take 2 pictures that represent each of the topics. Students must be in the picture but it does not have to contain their face (back turned, looking down, etc.) Experiment with angles and subject matter and have some fun with this assignment! The link, videos, and slide show below will help you recall the lesson that was taught in class.

Each student will sign up for flipsnack and create a book that defines the terms below and shows an example of each. Look at the steps below to see how to complete this project. TURN THE LINK INTO CANVAS AND EMBED IT ONTO YOUR SITE.

STEPS TO SUCCESS
Step 1: View the student examples in class
Step 2: Take pictures around the school (or your home) that are good examples of the concepts listed above.
Step 3: Design your online flipbook using definitions and your photos. Create this in Canva (it's called an e-book) .
Step 4: Embed the flipbook on your online portfolio under the graphics page.
Creating a flipbook in Canva
There are a lot of sites that can help you do this and our good friend CANVA can help you as well.
Search for an e-book template, create your pages, click SHARE, click MORE, type HEY in the search engine, choose the HEYZINE FLIPBOOK OPTION.
Within the HAYZINE app, you can click SHARE then EMBED and copy the embed code. Paste this code into your VIDEO page on your portfolio.
I will show you these steps several times in class so don't worry if this doesn't make sense at the moment.
Checklist
Print the checklist below and take it with you as you walk around to take your pics. Note: If you are in school use a partner to take pictures of you so you are in the pics,. If you are at home, use a tripod or set the phone against an object and use a timer.
